Using the power of design and branding to create memorable moments and experiences.

The power of diversity and representation in branding is real!

Ever wondered what makes a brand truly stand out in today’s crowded marketplace? Spoiler alert: yep, diversity and representation has a role to play. At 478 Studios, we’re not just about expressing creativity intelligently to solve a problem or to paint a more accurate picture; we’re passionate about championing diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our work, it’s never been more necessary to ensure cultures and values are truly captured in the stories we tell and the brand worlds we desire to create.

Let’s dive into why inviting truly diverse creative teams into the arena is an absolute game-changer, especially for those at the helm of building a brand, crafting a strategy or executing a marketing campaign.

Research shows that diverse teams are not just a nice-to-have, but a must-have for fostering creativity and driving innovation. By bringing together individuals with different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, we unlock a treasure trove of fresh ideas and unique insights. As creatives working across tech, it’s crucial that we tap into this diversity to stay ahead of the curve.
But don’t just take our word for it!

👉🏾 Let’s talk about representation:

When consumers see themselves, their experiences and values reflected in the brands they love, magic happens. A COO of a pioneering social enterprise, shares: “It is important that our corporate sponsors understand the importance of authentic representation when promoting our programmes. I remember when one of our national sponsors presented their campaign for our joint partnership. It featured a black boy in a hoodie eating a burger. We were shocked and had to tell them that this will not tell our story in a way that resonates with our community… with some gentle direction and richer conversations had, we arrived at a much better creative output.

👉🏾 Diversity of thought & shared experiences:

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of chatting with some incredible black founders who have experienced firsthand the impact of diversity on their branding journey. As David McQueen, co-founder of a peer network for Black entrepreneurs, puts it: “we were after a black owned creative agency who could really get our narrative, without having to explain much, and build a powerful brand. 478 Studios really delivered on this. Building an amazing brand toolkit and assets that will help us build this into the future.”

👉🏾 A few stats for the number crunchers:

69% of Black consumers are more likely to purchase from a brand whose advertising positively reflects their race or ethnicity.

64% of consumers said they took some sort of action after seeing an ad that they considered to be diverse or inclusive.

70% of Gen Z consumers are more trusting of brands that represent diversity in ads.

Let’s wrap up…

So, fellow founders, marketers, and communicators, let’s make a commitment to prioritise diversity in our branding, representation in our creative visuals, and authentic truths in our storytelling. Together, we’ll not only create standout brands for a global audience but also pave the way for a more inclusive future.
